Beds are one of the most essential pieces of furniture that should be present in any home since everyone spends nearly 8 hours each day in it. You can sleep on a futon or on a straw mat on the floor and even on your sofa, but they’re not nearly as comfortable as a real bed. When buying a bed, make sure that you’re getting the most comfortable one, but also make sure that you’re getting a bed with a really creative design. You’ll be spending a third of your day in it, so you might as well make it an interesting bed to sleep on. Here are some unusual bed designs that might catch your attention:
It’s difficult to always be creative especially when making everyday things such as pieces of furniture, however, some designers have made this possible and have created 10 of the most interesting and creative chairs. On the other hand, some designers go overboard in thinking up new and creative chair designs, and the resulting products are not always pleasing to the eyes. The chair, interestingly, did not become a common piece of household furniture until the 16th Century. The bench, stool and chest were the typical seats used back then by ordinary people, while the chair was used as a symbol of social status and dignity. It was once an emblem of authority – hence, the use of the term “Chairman” to refer to people with positions in the government and academe, among other institutions. Chairs were often adorned with precious stones and expensive materials, and they usually had intricate carvings and patterns.
After it became common furniture in a lot of homes, the chair has since evolved from being a utilitarian piece to an aesthetic piece used to decorate one’s home. Creative manufacturers and artists are creating chairs using a variety of materials in designs that would otherwise make one go, “Really?”
Here are the 10 creative and unusual chairs that one might want to have in his home (or not):
Heike Weber is known for creating large scale pieces of art using heavy repetition. The German installation artist showcased another collection that uses acrylic paint and markers to transform otherwise plain walls and floors into works of arts and optical illusions.
(Also, if you’ve read the story, “Yellow Wallpaper”, Heike Weber’s art will make you wonder what the narrator of the story would’ve seen if she were staring into the walls and floors painted by the artist.)
Oh, get a life! This is the life. When you’re the number one fan of the sci-fi TV series Star Trek, live alone in your apartment, and have wads of cash lying around, why not turn your flat into a replica of starship USS Enterprise’s flight deck? This guy did just that – he turned his 500-square foot one-bedroom apartment into the flight deck of the most famous spaceship. There’s a command console, voice-activated lighting and windows reshaped to look like portholes. If that’s not impressive enough for you, then just look at how eerily this apartment is designed and lit like Enterprise’s flight deck. I just wonder where he sleeps because there doesn’t seem to a bed around.

As the brainchild of Will Aspinall and special effects designer Neil Lambeth, the Aspiral clock does not have any hands but instead has a rotating face that slowly spirals over the course of 12 hours, rolling a ball precisely around and telling the time as it rotates. First created in 2006, the Aspiral clock has sold over 50 pieces, with orders still coming in every day. Check out what makes this clock tick with the BBC video feature below.
