The Hubble space telescope caught a glimpse of two things: a. the hottest known planet in our galaxy has a surface temperature of around 1,500 degrees Celsius (2,800 degrees Fahrenheit), and b. it’s about to be engulfed by its parent star.
Scientists predict that the said planet, called WASP-12b, is going to be completely devoured by the star it orbits in ten million years. Researchers used the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph to observe the planet’s doomed orbit. According to researchers, gravitational forces have deformed WASP-12b into an elongated shape.
WASP-12b is about 300 times the size of Earth and is around 600 light-years away. Its orbit is so close to its star in our galaxy’s Auriga Constellation that it completes its orbit in about 24 hours.
The planet’s doom may take a long, long time, though researchers have already observed extreme changes in WASP-12b. Carole Haswell, team leader of The Open University in Great Britain said, “We see a huge cloud of material around the planet, which is escaping and will be captured by the star. We have identified chemical elements never before seen on planets outside our own solar system.”
Another astronomer, Shu-lin Li, had published a paper predicting that the planet’s surfaces “would be distorted by the star’s gravitational pull” and that WASP-12b’s interior temperature will rise further.
WASP-12b may be 600 light-years away, but NASA’s concept art of the observed phenomenon looks too scary to even contemplate happening to Earth.
A wedding is a ceremony where two people are united in marriage. Various cultures, religions, countries, ethnic groups and social classes all have differing wedding customs and traditions. Despite differences in customs and traditions in weddings, one fact remains: a wedding is a very special occasion for both the couple and their families. And to document this special event in the couple’s life, a photographer is normally on hand to take snapshots of the ceremony and of everything and everyone that have something to do with the wedding. So naturally, some funny wedding photos are bound to be taken.
Yiming Wang has been dancing for almost half of his life (that’s two years!) and has already mastered Michael Jackson’s famous moonwalk dance step. Also called Xiao Bao or “little treasure”, this 4-year old kid started moving to music when he was only a couple of months old. His parents consider him a miracle baby as he was born prematurely. Because he had weak muscles, doctors suggested that his parents move his limbs to music to strengthen them. Yiming Wang passionately responded to music immediately, even stopping from crying and calming down when music was played. When he got older, the child would readily break into a dance routine whenever he heard music.
This 4-year old dancer has become a dancing sensation in China, appearing at the World Expo 2010 which opened in Shanghai in May. Yiming Wang has also gained international recognition for his dancing skills and for being as cute as a button when he appeared in The Ellen Degeneres Show where he danced to a Michael Jackson song.
In this week’s episode of Glee, the kids of McKinley High School Glee Club are going for the win with a dose of theatricality. What better way to celebrate the occasion but by singing the hits of the one and only Lady Gaga. In this episode of Glee, Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer), Mercedes (Amber Riley), Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), Quinn (Dianna Agron), Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera) don their Gaga-inspired costumes to perform one of the multiplatinum selling artist’s biggest hits–Bad Romance.
Fortunately for all Gleeks out there, this rendition of Bad Romance is also being performed by the cast on their live tour aptly titled Glee Live! In Concert! The tour began on May 15th and is currently on its last few stops so make sure to grab your tickets to experience the show. Gleeks around Rosemont, IL and New York, NY will get a taste of the Glee experience live with hits from the show (“Don’t Stop Believin’”, “Push It”, “Bust Your Windows”, “Like a Prayer”, “My Life Would Suck Without You”) and more.
A group of ninjas helped out a person who was being mugged by thugs in a dark alley in Sydney’s west. According to news reports, the victim was a 27-year old German medical exchange student who was just making his way home. The victim boarded a late-night train where the thugs were also in. When the men asked for his wallet, the victim got off the train and headed toward a dark alley. The thugs caught up with the victim here and took his phone and iPod and started beating him up.
*Cue entrance of ninjas*
A group of ninjas came running toward the thugs, effectively scaring them off and saving the student from possibly getting beat up some more. (The muggers were caught by police later on.) The mugging happened in front of a dojo and when a student of the dojo saw what was happening, he alerted his school. The dojo’s sensei ordered his students – all dressed up in ninja garb – to help out the victim by confronting the thugs.
Oh, and the ninja who alerted the dojo about the mugging was standing in the same dark alley, hiding in the shadows in true ninja fashion.
Gone are the days when you only used your hands to shove food in your mouth. In these modern times, we now use utensils like spoons, forks and knives because they make eating easier and more pleasurable. We use a steak knife to cut the slab of meat we eat during dinner, use the spoon to scoop up and deliver rice or soup to our mouth and use a fork to pick up food from our plate. These implements were definitely made for practical use to make eating uncomplicated, and we can’t be any happier for these inventions. Now, if some people take practicality up another notch, then we’ll have more creative and handier utensils.
